Gwadar International Airport, which will be capable of handling the largest of passenger planes including the Airbus A380 Boeing jet, is being constructed at a cost of US$ 260 million at Gwadar, Balochistan province. The amount for the airport is a full grant from the Chinese government, the Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
China Airport Construction Group Corporation conducted and approved soil testing for the new international airport design and conceptual images have been finalized mutually agreed by authorities.
The airport will be spread over 4,300 acres compared to Karachi’s 3,700 acres, Lahore’s 2,800 acres and about 3,600 acres of Islamabad’s new under construction airport. It will be capable of handling 380 large aircraft and more than a million passengers per annum, on completion in three years after contract signing through bidding.
