Gwadar Port is the highlight of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and will revolutionize the economy of Pakistan. CPEC is a part of The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China.
The BRI is an attempt to revive the ancient Silk Road. This road was used from the 2nd century BCE to the 18th century BCE. It was the central connecting route between the East and the West.
In light of BRI, China has invested in many countries including Pakistan. This initial cost of CPEC was estimated to be $46 billion. However, it is $87 billion as for the year 2020. It is through the CPEC that Pakistan’s highway and railways networks are expanding.
The Gwadar Port will serve as a connection between the overland roads and the sea routes which will be a part of the ancient Silk Road revival.
