The CPEC Joint Working Group on Transport Infrastructure held its 8th virtual meeting on 26th October to discuss new projects. Pakistan’s side was led by Communications Secretary Zafar Hasan while China’s Vice Minister of Transport Dai Dongchang led the other side. Both groups discussed updates on the railway project too.
nAfter in depth discussion, the group picked 3 road projects for construction. According to the Communication Ministry, following roads will be constructed;n

- A motorway from Peshawar to DI Khan (320 kilometers)
- Swat Expressway from Chakdara to Fatehpur Phase-II (182 kilometers)
- Dir Expressway (30 kilometers)

Apart for this, other road construction projects were also discussed in the meeting. The Pakistani group led by Zafar Hasan provided briefing regarding the Peshawar Circular Railway, Karachi Circular Railway, Mainline-1 Project, and Quetta Mass Transit Project to the Chinese group. Communication secretary Zafar Hasan also proposed some modifications to the CPEC Western route projects. Moreover, the Chinese group was informed of the successful and timely completion of the Sukkur-Multan Motorway and the Havelian-Thakot Motorway projects.
